The Flavor of First Presbyterian:
We are an open and friendly congregation of 400 members with a good mix of singles and families, young children and adults of all ages. The church is located in a downtown neighborhood three blocks from Lake Michigan and is near to a recognized Historic District.
First Presbyterian is socially active, pursuing multi-cultural and multi-racial links within our community and the world. We are proud of our history which included involvement in the Underground Railroad and the Abolitionist Movement. We have continued to foster social initiatives resulting in on-going programs such as health care for the uninsured, homeless ministries, and food programs. We are actively involved in mission work throughout the world. Church members take part in international mission trips. Each summer, our middle school and high school youth participate in mission workcamps, providing assistance to communities throughout the United States. We have organized several mission trips to Mississippi to provide Hurricane Katrina disaster relief.
Vision and Mission Statement:
We are a community of Christ’s faithful witnesses seeking to live the journey of God’s purpose.
Jesus Christ is our inspiration. The Holy Spirit is our guide. The Bible is our greatest resource. The church is our visible, sustaining Fellowship.
The city of Racine and beyond is our Together we seek to grow in our understanding of the true nature of God and the way of life taught by Jesus Christ. We desire to: bear witness to God in the world; represent God’s healing presence in our community; build caring connections both within our congregation and in the larger community; and inspire through worship, music, opportunities for learning and mission.
