Historical Highlights
The Village of Racine was barely four years old when a meeting of "professors of Religion" was held to decide on the formation of a church. By a vote of 15 to 7, it was decided that the new church would be Presbyterian. The congregation was founded in 1839, and the first church building was built in 1843. The present sanctuary, now listed on the National Register of Historical Places, was built in 1852. Slaves escaping on the underground railway were hidden in our building, and their hiding place can still be seen. Several sections of the building have been added to or renovated over the years. The most recent project, finished in 1998, was a two million dollar renovation which added classroom and office space and made our building fully handicapped-accessible.
